Rocket League
WEEK ONE
OBS
Starting with OBS, this was the first time using it after being shown in lectures. Transitions were to be added. The names on the screen were incorrect and shows the wrong way round which needed replaced. Overlays were also not timed correctly which needed improvement.
Graphics
The only graphics made for week one were the two coloured boxes sowing the players name and team colour.
Roles
The first roles chosen were; Lucas and Jakob as casters, Tom on production, Jakob as player co-ordinator, Lucas on socials, Ruben on graphics and Josh on observer. These roles were fitted to everyone's choices on what they wanted to do.
Equipment
The equipment we used for the first week of streaming were the peripherals available to us in the SIZ where we did our event. We only had our own headsets to listen to audio which was helpful.
Stream
In regards to the stream we hadn't started a test stream so at the beginning of the VOd there was just the observer playing a round so we could test the audio and the mic levels.
Issues
We had mic audio level issues with Jakob as the microphone wouldn't actually pick his voice up therefore couldn't be heard on stream. No transitions were added so the lobby screen with player names were shown as well as the observers and the overlay was still on the screen after the match. Socials were not on any screens either.
WEEK TWO
Casters
Josh was put on the casting role as he had high game knowledge and enthusiasm for the game itself, helping Lucas cast as we found that casting was very lengthy as every game was 5 minutes and there were 3 games, all best of three’s.
Graphics
There was an intermission screen, a caster screen, thank you for watching screen added as well as a logo and a slightly improved overlay which was used to increase the quality of the stream itself. Caster photos were also added to the caster screen to give the viewers an idea of who is speaking as they introduce themselves when they come up.
OBS
Due to the graphics being added there was more to do on the production side which involved switching the screens at the correct time and having the overlays in a better position.
Equipment
On production we had changed the peripherals to our own personal peripherals as it was more comfortable and quicker to use. Especially a mouse pad as well as the personal mouse which actually made it easier to navigate OBS with.
Issues
During this week we had a few issues. Starting with the date of the stream being delayed due to staff sickness. Secondly the mic audio was an issue as Josh was louder than Lucas as they were using the same microphone but when the audio level was turned up Josh was too loud on stream. We had the incorrect screen up that displayed the wrong information due to connection issues with the players joining the lobby. No socials were on the screen at any time.
WEEK THREE
Audio
In regards to the casters being a different audio level we had found a temporary solution which involved turning the microphone level up and down every time each caster spoke.
Overlay
The overlay was changed to fit the pre-existing HUD of Rocket League, this included its shape, size and colour to look more professional. There was another intermission screen added which does count as graphics although the others were changed to fit the colour scheme of rocket league a lot better.
Logo
The logo was updated to look more professional and had a blue background to fit closer to the Rocket League colour scheme.
Sponsor
A sponsor was added called 'Penton 'Publications' which is Irelands number one leading media company.
Issues
During this week we had an unintended late start due to getting everything set up for the stream very close to the starting time. The communication between staff was not good as we had problems transitioning between screens and starting the game too early. Communication with players was also not good as some players were confused on the start times. We had failed to complete all the changes we wanted to for this week hence why there are few updates. Again, no socials on any graphics.
WEEK FOUR
Music
During this week we had added music to the beginning, intermission and end of the stream to keep viewers entertained whilst waiting for the stream to start or re-start.
Overlay
Map score was added to the overlay to show on stream who had won the map and how many maps they had won. The logo was also added to the overlay as well as the sponsor to show our identity.
Timer
We had added a timer to the start of the stream that counts down to the start of the stream so viewers can know exactly when the stream will start instead of having to wait unknowingly when it will start.
WEEK FIVE
Face Cam
In the final week we had added a live face cam to the casters screen to show the audience live caster reactions to allow them to fully engage with the casters, in turn, making them feel more involved in the conversations.
Music
Unfortunately we had to change the non-copyrighted music that we originally had to a different playlist as twitch deemed it copyrighted even though it was not.
Socials
All the socials were added to every screen that we had created to show the viewers where they can access updated information.
Stinger Transition
For the final week we also added a custom Rocket League themed transition to fix the style of the game and game transitions more visually appealing.
